Types of Mountain Bikes

TYPES OF MOUNTAIN BIKES

Choosing a type of mountain bike to buy can be time consuming, as there are so many different types of bikes to choose from. It all depends on the type of riding you do, and on what type of terrain you like to ride on.  The style of bike you choose will be determined by these factors.

Different types of bikes available:

1.  Cross country

The most common mountain bike, used for easy path riding, commuting and all terrain.  This is a general classification for almost all mountain bikes. Great for riding over all terrain types, up and down hills, due to its lighter weight.

2.  Downhill

For advanced riders and must be able to sustain a heavy workload.  They consist of front and rear suspension, heavy duty frame and rugged parts, and disc brakes. Many serious bikers build these bikes themselves to their own specifications, and are thus rarely available to buy online or off the shelf.

3.  Trials

Trail riding is the precision classification of mountain biking. The rider needs to develop a whole range of skill in order to ride trails well.  Also these bikes are often custom built by the rider. These bikes are built from light weight materials and need to be strong and durable.

4.  Jump and slalom

Designed for street racing, slalom and jumping. These bikes are built very strong. Great fun for beginners and the advanced rider.

Jump and slalom bike come in a variety of models and styles, so the rider needs to test ride a few styles to get a feel for what is his or her preference.
